Weekend Gateway near Bangalore: Coorg, Karnataka

Kodagu, formally called as Coorg is a district in Indian state of Karnataka. It’s a perfect weekend gateway for nature lovers.

Distance from Bangalore: 260 KM

Ideal Weekend Duration: 2 days


The best time to visit Coorg is from October to May. Peak seasons being February to April. It’s one of the palace which receives highest rainfall. The landscapes remain misty throughout the year. Hill station is covered in lush green forest and landscapes dotted with coffee plantations, tea gardens and orange groves, this hill station has breathtakingly stunning scenic beauty.


Places to Visit: Madikeri, Virajpet, Talakaveri, Kushalanagar, Abbey Falls, Mandalapatti


Abbey Falls. Beautiful falls 7-9 km from Madikeri. Abbey Falls is a breathtaking waterfall where the Kaveri river cascades down a rockface. A hanging bridge has now been built across the gorge here offering a good view of the falls.

Madikeri Fort. This fort was built by Mudduraja in the last quarter of the 17th century. He also built a palace inside the fort

Raja's Seat. It’s the place where local rajas used to watch the sun set. There is a nice garden and a beautiful panoramic view to the valley.

Talakaveri is 42 km from Madikeri. The source of the Cauvery river. It is an important pilgrimage site for Hindu people. Cauvery river starts here. You can be reach here by bus from Madikeri.

Nisargadhama is 3 km from Kushalnagar. Park has some bamboo "machans" on trees, but the best part of it is the river is on the back-side. If you want to go for elephant ride at Nisarga Dhama, please remember to buy ride-tickets along with your entry-ticket before you get in.

Golden Temple. The largest Tibetan settlement in Southern India and monastery locally called "Golden Temple", in Bylakuppe, near Kushal Nagar.

Mandalpatti is 18Km from the Madikeri, the mountain range are part of the Pushpagiri reserve forest. Jeep ride will take you to the top of the hill. If you are an bike rider, road to Mandalapatti offers everything you can wish for.
